Connect the adapter to the HDMI input on the Elgato Game Capture HD by using HDMI cable. To begin you will need to have a DVI to HDMI adapter. Using the DVI standard allows a connection to the PC output video source. Keeping in mind some PC models are older at this point. The adapter of choice has to support sound output. As an example, Griffin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with Audio + DVI will work. Plug the adapter into the HDMI Input of Elgato Game Capture HD utilizing a regular HDMI cable. For this type, you will have to use a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. A PC recording with Mini Display outputĪ few fairly new PC models use Mini Display Port for output video as standard. The connection can be made directly from PD to the HDMI input of Elgato Game Capture HD by using a regular HDMI cable. For such instances, an adapter is not needed. I will try use OBS from now on hoping to be more successful, but it's a shame I have to move away from 4K Capture Utility since the old Game Capture was reliable and feature-rich.Considering there are some PC’s which have a built-in HDMI output port already in place. Or why not make the new capture cards compatible with both software? I've never had a single problem flashback recording with the HD60 Pro, and I don't understand why 4K Capture Utility wasn't modeled after Game Capture.
This morning I checked on it and did actually save the clip but it has constant freezes so the clip is worthless. Yesterday my software froze yet again after recording a clip and I decided to leave it overnight in the hope it would eventually manage to process the clip. Even when it does work sometimes it takes minutes to start recording again which is quite annoying because I need to keep monitoring the software hoping it starts working again. Yet multiple times when I decided to flashback record a clip I went back on the timeline, hit record, waited a few seconds, hit stop and the software froze / capture didn't restart. My machine is above the minimum requirements listed on Elgato's website and I'm not even recording at 4K but at 1440p60. I've now lost multiple clips due to the software freezing when I try to flashback record. I would live with these workarounds if not for the biggest problem of the software by far: instability. In the heat of the moment while I'm playing I now need to click on the "i" icon, type the name for the clip and hit save, while on Game Capture all you had to do was click on the text field once and then the cursor would never move away if you used hotkeys to flashback record. The name field for the next clip was always on screen with Game Capture, while on 4K Capture Utility it's hidden behind an icon.On 4K Capture Utility you're limited to 30 seconds unless you do it manually. I usually get a minute or two of gameplay when I record a clip and on Game Capture you could configure the amount of time the shortcut recorded. Hotkeys are not configurable and the clip length for flashback recording via hotkeys isn't either. If you want to losslessly trim a clip and remove your commentary you need to first convert the audio before Avidemux can accept it. One of the Elgato reps recommended Avidemux which works great except for the fact that it doesn't accept the. That's the most basic feature that should be available in a capture software and yet we must use third-party programs to do so. The software is more than 4 years old and you still can't trim clips.Unfortunately, 4K Capture Utility is such a massive downgrade in terms of features and stability compared to the old Game Capture software that I will now have to move to OBS.

I've never had any issues whatsoever with the Game Capture software, so when I was looking for a new device to replace my HD60 Pro and had to pick between the 4K60 PRO Mk.2 and the Avermedia GC573 I went with Elgato due to how familiar I was with the software and how hassle-free the experience had been over the years. I've been using Elgato capture cards since 2014.
