So nice that the first paragraph greeting you on the download page is: Just downloaded, wow, no one ever mentioned the complex download process (each format VST, AU, AXX, is a separated download and install, then the samples).

While you're at it, get the Blackbird expansion - they're phenomenally well-recorded, mix easily, and give even more range in the softer rock/Nashville styles. They could do with more Jazz kits, and especially kits played with rods, brushes, that kind of thing.

There's the production-ready stuff as well as the 'deluxe' kitpieces that are less processed (but could be used unprocessed because they sound THAT good). Within the vanilla kitpieces, I can't think of anything that isn't well represented. And then metal stuff from clicky blastbeat kicks to rounder classic metal kicks.well, you probably get my point. I have to ask, Kurt, but what are you looking for? It's just that when you say 'mostly classic rock, metal,' you're talking about, in four words, everything from the open, thundering Ludwig Bonhamesque roar to the tight, muffled, precise thump of early Steely Dan records, to modern 'classic rock' like open-tom 80's kits and 90's grunge, big mid-scooped kicks and snares. Can anyone highly recommend it for someone who has many drum VIs (especially traditional kits) but is looking for some new urban kits and variety? And does Slate digital usually give a decent discount for upgrades if I wanted it? Or will I buy 4 and then need another $250 to get upgraded to 5? I was thinking about waiting for SSD 5 but looking at the Sweetwater catalog it doesn't look that different (a couple new kits, more color in the GUI) and if it comes out at double the price then I'll wish I had bought it now. Previous Post (June 17, 2015) - Just noticed Steven Slate drums are now $149 (with any expansion pack thrown in).
